Derry

Friendship City since: 2021
Location: is the second-largest city in Northern Ireland and the fifth-largest city on the island of Ireland. The name Derry is an anglicisation of the Old Irish name Daire (modern Irish: Doire [ˈd̪ˠɛɾʲə]) meaning ‘oak grove’. The old walled city lies on the west bank of the River Foyle, which is spanned by two road bridges and one footbridge. The city now covers both banks (Cityside on the west and Waterside on the east).
Climate: The climate of Derry is oceanic, with quite cold, rainy winters and mild, relatively rainy summers.
Population: 83,652

San Diego High School (SDHS) and the Bundesrealgynasium Spittal an der Drau (BRG Spittal) have a long-standing exchange with their high school students, initially begun by Stan Murphy from San Diego High School in 1989. SDHS and the BRG Spittal both have strong language programs and international focus that benefits from this exchange.
