Australia Day in North Park
Brunch, music and fun are the flavor of the day this Saturday 25 January 2020, with the San Diego-Perth Sister City Society’s Australia Day in North Park celebration, in association with the San Diego Lions Australia Football Club.
Australia Day commemorates the landing of the First Fleet under the command of Captain Arthur Phillip. The First Fleet entered Sydney Cove on January 26, 1788 with its cargo of convicts from Great Britain. The Union Jack was raised, and the new colony was formed under the Governorship if Captain Phillip.
The advent of the First Fleet’s arrival was officially acknowledged as Australia Day, or Founders Day, in 1804. Since that time, Australian’s have joined together in celebrating this national holiday. Australians around the world invite friends, family, and all, to raise a pint and enjoy the day.
In San Diego, the San Diego-Perth Sister City Society and the San Diego Lions would like to invite you to Celebrate the Day!. Please join us at the following venues:
Mission San Diego de Alcalá 250th anniversary
Mission San Diego de Alcalá commemorates 250th anniversary of its founding
February 16 and 17, 2019, have been designated as Heritage Week End at the Mission. San Diego/Alcalá
Sister Cities Society and the House of Spain are in charge of celebrating Spanish Heritage at the Mission;
therefore at 1:00pm, on Sunday, February 17, after 12:00 mass, dedicated to our friend and colleague,
Tom Case, we will celebrate the occasion with a Spanish meal of paella, salad, bread and a refreshment
or sangría accompanied by Spanish guitar music and Spanish dance in the California Room of the
Mission.

Wednesday, February 6. You can make payment for the meal and entertainment at the California Room
of the Mission on Sunday, February 17: $20, adults; $15 for children 15 years old and under. Don´t
forget to RSVP with the number of people who will attend.
On Saturday, February 16, from 9:30-3:00 there will be activities for children to celebrate Spanish
Heritage and we will have available for purchase at 9:30 churros and chocolate and at 12:30 Spanish
stews.

San Diego – Alcalá Sister City Society PAELLA fund raiser
The San Diego – Alcalá Sister City Society will host a PAELLA fund raiser to benefit a sister city student exchange. Students from San Diego will travel to Spain and students from Spain will travel to San Diego to have a once in a lifetime experience.

Don Quijote Read-a-thon
San Diego/Alcalá Sister Cities Society invites you to the yearly Don Quijote Read-a-thon in the International Cottages Lawn Program area.
In addition to the public reading of Don Quijote de la Mancha, House of Spain will offer their world-renowned paella for purchase, plus Spanish music and dance performances.
